ZFW entered three teams, with the A Team winning Gold, the B Team Bronze and the C Team claiming a very respectable 12th Place.
The A Team, comprising Richard Kruse, Alex Tofalides, Alex Lloyd and Peter Bartwell, remained undefeated all day, seeing off Salle Boston B and Saxon Theigns in the poule and then proceeding to the top part of the draw for the knock-out stage. They dispatched the Fencing Acadamy's two teams in the quarter- and semi-final, before beating the Salle Boston A Team 45-38 in the final.
The B Team of Chris Nagle, Matthew Abrahams and Dominic De-Almeida was equally as impressive in the poules, winning their matches against Salle Paul 2 and Academy A and taking their place in the top Tableau for the direct eliminations. They were commanding against Fencers Club London in the quarters, winning 45-27, but then just came up short against the eventual runners-up, losing in the semi-final 45-39 to Salle Boston A.
The C Team of Tom Corlett, Dylan Daniel, Tristan Cheng and Nikita Kuznetsov beat the team from Cyrano (Essex) and then lost to Salle Boston A in the poule. This put them into the second tableau for the direct eliminations. Here they beat Bath Sword's A Team in the quarters, before succumbing to Salle Paul A in the semi-final play-off, leaving them in 12th overall.
